A former newspaper and TV news reporter, Richard Varr started his journalism career at a suburban Boston daily newspaper after earning an MA in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University. He later worked as a television reporter and anchor in Upstate New York and in Austin and Houston, Texas. After 18 years in hard news, he moved on to telling stories from around the world as a Houston-based freelance travel writer and member of the Society of American Travel Writers. In addition to writing the Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel Guide to Philadelphia, he contributed to the Toronto Star, London Telegraph, Miami Herald and Dallas Morning News before coming to the East-West News Service.
